4th of July in Cuenca - 2013

Since we had arrived in Cuenca in September 2012, it was our first time to celebrate the 4th of July here.  We had been invited over to another American's house, Claudia & Les Aron, for a shared dinner.  They provided the hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks, while the other ladies brought salads and side dishes.

The group was small but so lively and entertaining.  Besides Ed and me, there was Ellen & Al Wiley and Max & Evelyn Hall-Rice (this couple we had never met before).

I love going into another home to see what they have done and Claudia had made their condo a charming home for sure.  They had a small balcony that allowed Les to have a large grill for cooking the dinner and Claudia her passion for flowers and plants.

The whole evening was fun and Al brought fireworks for our celebration.  Little did the group know that he would try to blow the glass patio doors apart or deafen us all.  One of the bottle rockets didn't fly up into the air but exploded on the wall of the patio.  We all did get to pull Al's leg a bit on that one - after we could hear again.

The evening ended with a round of cards that we swear the rules changed on every hand....to the benefit of our host Les!

Love our new home and the friends we are making here.
