Nerja, Spain on The Balcony of Europe - Sept. 20th

September 20th - Leaving Tangier to Nerja, Spain

We did not have to depart Tangier, Morocco until 10:30am ferry.  Said, our tour guide from yesterday, had sent a van to pick us up and deliver us to the ferry terminal.  We now knew the routine and it was easy to go through Customs and Immigrations and board the ferry.

In Tarifa Ed and I walked from the ferry dock to the car park where we had left the cars the day before and then drove to the dock to pick up the rest of the group.  We didn't have a long day that day to our destination of Nerja on the Coast del Sol.  We did have a little problems getting down on the coastal road and not stay on the express way that bypassed all the small towns.  We wanted to drive along the coast road that ran along the Mediterranean Sea.

That evening we stayed in the Parador Nerja that sits on a high cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea with the Sierra Nevada Mountains down to the Sea, called the Balcony of Europe.  Ed and I had stayed in this same Parador with our kids almost 30 years ago.

The above picture was taken the last time (1983) we had been in the Parador Nerja and had fallen in love with the place.  You can see the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains coming right down to meet the Mediterranean Sea…..it was late December so no leaves were on the trees.

The hotel was much the same but they had added a new swimming pool and new elevator to get down to the beach.  When we were there were only steep stairs leading down to the beach and it was a hike.  Now the new private elevator it's an easy ride down to the beach.

This was a wonderful trip down memory lane for Ed and I and would like to return again but not wait for 30 years to do so.

The following morning we were off to our final destination in Spain, Granada for three days of touring that wonderful city.
