Seville - Sept. 16th - Monday Day Tour with Carmen - Continued

Monday - Sept. 16th - Part 2 of our Tour with Carmen

During our lunch break, everyone caught their second breath and cooled down.  Carmen came at 3:00pm to pick us up from the restaurant and away we went….again!

We took the tram to the Plaza de Espana -  the Seville tram one runs one short line with only five stops.  They have a good public bus system but it's really a walking city.
Please note the in the bottom right corner in red the temperature is  34 C and that means it's 93.2 degrees at 3:51pm - rather warm for mid-September!

Across the street is the old tobacco factory - at one time employed 10,000 young female workers.  In the 18th century, it was the 2nd largest building in Spain, with only El Escorial being larger.  It is now part of the university.
Plaza de Espana - this square and the surrounding park was the place where the 1929 international fair was held.  In the buildings are now offices for the government works, with hours from 9 to 3...
There are little coves with beautiful scenes from each of the provinces of Spain in alphabetical order, from Alava to Zaragoza…Carmen did point out one province was out of order.

This scene is of Christopher Columbus returning to Spain with treasurers from the New World.  You will see North American Indians in the scene.

Carmen ended our tour here at 5:30 and we could have walked around the lovely gardens and large park area.  But, the only thing our group wanted was a nap in an air conditioned room.

Tony was able to flag down two cabs almost the second we got up to the main street.  We all agreed to meet at 7:00pm for dinner.  My left knee had been giving me some problems but it was swollen, hot and painful.  Ed went down and got me a bag of ice for it and I sat on the bed with leg up and ice on knee.  I opted not to join the group for dinner, just rested and took a shower and got ready for bed.  The group went to their favorite Irish pub just a block from the hotel.  I think they were getting sick of tapas and wanted good old American food.
